Application of proline in enhancing stress resistance of plants
Proline is an important amino acid accumulated in plants under stress such as drought, high temperature, high salt, freezing, ultraviolet irradiation and heavy metal, and plays a key role in plant osmotic regulation.
(1)Proline can reduce the damage of salt stress to plants
In 1 x Hoagland nutrient solution culture muskmelon seedling, the growth of normal (figure 1, A), add 100mmol·L-1NaCl in 1 x Hoagland nutrient solution melon seedling plants grow bad, in short, the salt injury symptoms of more severe (figure 1, B), and in the add 100mmol·L-1NaCl + 0.2mmol·L - 1proline of 1 x Hoagland nutrient solution melon seedling growth basic normal, the salt injury symptoms significantly reduce (figure 1, C).
(2) Proline can effectively improve the morphological indexes of rice under salt stress

Under the condition of salt stress, proline seeding could significantly improve the seedling height, root length, root number and their relative values of germinated rice seeds. Moreover, under the treatment of low concentration of proline 5mmol/L (FIG. 3-3G), the effect of salt stress on phenotypic traits of rice could be alleviated, and even the root length, relative seedling height and relative root length could be restored to the normal level.
Higher concentration of proline (30mmol/L) could restore the seedling height to the normal level (FIG. 3-3i).
The results showed that proline could effectively improve the morphological indexes of rice under salt stress.
(3) Proline participates in plant flowering signal transduction
Proline plays an important role in plant growth and development as a signal molecule.
Many studies have shown that proline plays a certain role in flower development of plants.
The content of free proline was the highest in arabidopsis thaliana, especially in pollen grains, accounting for 26% of the total amino acid content.
